Position: The Chief Estimator & Director of Data

What You’ll Do

  • Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Construction, The Chief Estimator & Director of Data has oversight over the operation of the Estimating and data team, be comprehensively trained in every aspect of cost control procedures, implements advanced estimation tools and AI-driven databases to support strategic capital planning, while facilitating communication and compliance across senior leaders, project teams. They will be called upon to evaluate, select, recommend, negotiate, and present to management the most cost-effective solutions on any given construction cost proposal.

    They bring effective cost solutions to conceptual design problems and have proven skills in, defining requirements, procedures, methods, and report formats to keep management informed of ongoing and future forecasted cost of projects.
  • National role for all banners, the Chief Estimator is responsible to support all Banners with estimates for design and construction of Built Store initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain corporate estimating policies and evaluation procedures
  • Prepare project estimates for all Banners in compliance with estimation policies and procedures, both Class B and D
  • Ownership of Construction Class B and D estimates for accuracy
  • Support Real Estate development and capital investment goals.
  • Estimation tools development & maintain database of costs for estimation. Using AI, track all cost and schedule data for projects, to allow accurate forecasting for future projects
  • Prepare final accounts on completed projects to reconcile between estimates and actual expenditures.
  • Input into due diligence efforts with Construction & Environmental Teams to derisk project schedules, cost and quality owning the execution of schedule Cs, site investigation (environmental, geotech, spatial)
  • Facilitate effective communication between all stakeholders including senior leaders, Dealers, project team leads, consultants, vendors, contractors, landlords, security and other stakeholders as required.
  • Manage all internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with all procedures, project metrics, proto guidelines, corporate standards, building code, health & safety, quality control, contracts monitoring, and best construction practices. With an emphasis on high value and functionality.
  • Ensure all agreed processes and procedures for pre-construction activities are complied with
  • Presents the construction aspect of the project at Development meetings and REC meetings.
  • Develop and maintain a risk management plan to identify potential risks early in the pre-construction phase and implement mitigation strategies.
  • People Manager of 3 people; estimator, manager project data, coordinator project data.
  • Monitor industry trends and advancements in construction technology to continuously improve processes and methodologies.
What You Bring Education Required
  • BSc Cost estimating or BSc Quantity Surveying
Designation/Certifications
  • Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
  • Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS)
  • American Association of Cost Engineers (AACE)
Specific Knowledge Or Skills Required
  • Cost estimating
  • elemental and divisional conceptual estimates
  • value‑engineering comparisons
  • cost control procedures
  • design and construction practices
  • profiecient in MS Office, MS Project, Bluebeam, and Power BI.
Work Experience Required
  • 10 years cost estimation experience
  • 5 years+ people leadership experience including stewardship to senior executives
  • Experience managing enterprise-wide estimation and data management functions and delivering results in complex environments

Our typical hiring range is between $98,000. CAD Annual. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, job-related knowledge, skills and competencies, market location, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements.
