What You Will Be DoingThe Superintendent is responsible for leading and coordinating on‑site construction activities for complex heavy civil infrastructure projects with a focus on water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and related civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation/controls scopes. This role is accountable for safe, efficient, and high‑quality field execution, ensuring work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, schedule, and contract requirements.
Working closely with the Project Manager and project team, the Superintendent drives site productivity, manages trade coordination, supports commissioning and turnover activities, and maintains strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and field staff.
- Leading day‑to‑day field operations from mobilization through closeout, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
- Developing and maintaining short‑term and long‑term look‑ahead plans in coordination with the Project Manager and Project Controls team to support schedule adherence and milestone achievement.
- Coordinating and supervising site labour, forepersons, crews, subcontractors, equipment, and material deliveries to optimize productivity and maintain workflow.
- Monitoring field progress, identifying constraints or risks, and implementing recovery plans to address schedule impacts, access issues, design conflicts, or sequencing challenges.
- Leading site coordination meetings with trades, consultants, inspectors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to align activities, resolve issues, and maintain clear communication across the project team.
- Promoting and enforcing a strong safety culture on site by ensuring compliance with OH&S legislation, company policies, client requirements, safe work practices, and site‑specific safety plans.
- Overseeing quality of work in the field and supporting inspections, testing, deficiency management, and completion activities to ensure compliance with project standards and specifications.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals to support field execution, identify constructability issues, and coordinate timely resolution of technical matters.
- Supporting procurement and installation planning for key equipment and materials, including pumps, valves, piping systems, blowers, gates, MCCs/VFDs, and instrumentation/SCADA components.
- Maintaining accurate site documentation including daily reports, manpower tracking, site photos, inspections, deficiency logs, and records of delays, disruptions, or extra work.
- Collaborating with the Project Manager on change events, cost impacts, productivity concerns, schedule risks, and client/consultant communications related to field execution.
- Supporting commissioning, start‑up, turnover, and closeout activities, including vendor coordination, testing support, punch list completion, and readiness for client handover.
- Mentoring forepersons, field staff, and junior team members while fostering a respectful, accountable, and high‑performing site culture.
- Other duties, as required.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Foreperson, or similar field leadership role delivering heavy civil and/or industrial infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience on water treatment, wastewater treatment, and/or pumping station projects is required.
- Strong knowledge of field operations across multiple disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical/process, electrical, and instrumentation/controls scopes.
