Hitachi Rail STS Canada is looking for an enthusiastic self‑motivated Senior Civil Works Site Supervisor who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of engineering tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in downtown Toronto, Canada . The role involves supervision of construction and interface management of the civil works and track works related to an Ontario project.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Construction Manager, the successful candidate will ensure the construction of the civil works and the permanent way within a complex environment such as the RSSOM project. This includes providing technical assistance, supervising and coordinating the construction and installation works, and testing of the civil works and any other related construction activities.
Duties include:
Examining the work progress issued by subcontractors before submission to the Construction Manager.
Supporting the Construction Manager to detect changes regarding design and plan and providing inputs to engineering for as‑built drawings.
Ensuring the quality of the works (e.g., compliance with project design and specifications) and producing/implementing the quality control plan related to the works under responsibility.
Taking over work from other parties (civil partner, subcontractor, client, etc.) and checking design compliance before allowing electromechanical installation.
Verifying and approving construction and installation test packages issued by contractors and subcontractors.
Ensuring preliminary survey and asset information of the project existing conditions; performing surveys required to verify interfaces and conditions for installation of systems.
Supervising and supporting the Construction Manager for mobilization, installation and demobilization of site temporary works, offices, and facilities.
Ensuring execution of construction activities in compliance with the planning; verifying, preparing, and updating detailed planning in coordination with subcontractors and the Construction Manager.
Reporting delays for activities under control and proposing remedial actions.
Verifying and reporting progress of work and resources employed on site.
Ensuring compliance with HSE Management plan rules for the works under responsibility.
Producing method statements, risk assessments and relevant Work Package Plans; reviewing and verifying construction documentation and plans issued by subcontractors.
Optimizing resources (internal and external/subcontractors) in the project on site, using the project budget and planning as baseline.
Agreeing with the Construction Manager and developing site‑specific plans to be implemented in the project’s program and budget.
Liaising with customers, authorities, contractors, partners, and subcontractors for site and/or material take‑over and handover; providing input to the Supply Chain planner for expediting deliverables.
Ensuring continuous updating and improvement of processes and procedures.
Skills and Knowledge
Extensive knowledge and experience in supervision of construction works in one or more railway technological systems, preferably in metro systems.
Minimum 8‑10 years’ experience as a civil work engineer supervising and managing installation works.
Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering;
Ontario P.Eng highly desirable.
Clear Criminal Background Check.
The base salary range for this role is $99,100 to $148,600 CAD. Salary is determined based on responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and other factors.
