EHS Advisor

Reporting to the EHS Director, the EHS Advisor will be responsible for actively promoting a health, safety and environmental culture at all levels within Aecon. The role will implement policies and procedures outlined in Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
Key Responsibilities- Employee health and safety orientation.
- Site‑specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
- Training supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
- Training employees in fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control, WHMIS, respiratory protection and emergency response.
- Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Fork lift, Propane etc.
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
- Conduct behavioural observations in the workplace.
- Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.
- Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, traffic controls, fall protection.
- Distribution of safety material, supplies and equipment.
- Safety presentations to clients.
- Promote the Aecon safety system to potential industry clients.
- Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
- Inspect project facilities and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate activities of site‑safety coordinators.
- Assist with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
- Develop return‑to‑work and modified‑work programs.
- Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
- Liaise with Government agencies.
- Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
- Coordinate environmental issues.
- Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.
- Work with project management and vice presidents to order and distribute safety promotional materials.
- Participate in safety and industry association safety committees.
- Research health and safety products.
- Make recommendations on safety products for the workplace.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
- Ability to speak both English and French fluently.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Strong knowledge of the Regulations for Construction Projects.
- Strong knowledge of other Regulations, e.g., WHMIS, Asbestos in Construction, Designated Substances, Smoking in the Workplace.
- Self‑motivated with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
- Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Able to perform in a fast‑paced environment.
- Able to travel to remote job or work location.
- Stay out of town as required.
- Travel at off‑work hour times to attend early morning or late afternoon meetings.
- Variety of job site conditions (tunnels, quarries, mines, trenches/excavations, high rise, industrial facilities).
- Walking on rough terrain surfaces.
- Climbing ladders, ramps, slopes.
- Load/unload equipment and documentation for training programs.
- Work in all weather conditions.
- Drive in all weather and site conditions.
- Able to work and travel alone.

Pay RangePay Range: $70,000 – $95,000. Individual pay is determined based on work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training and the complexity or scope of the role.
