Purpose of the Position
:
Aecon is seeking a Deputy Project Director. In this senior leadership role, the Deputy Project Director will have day‑to‑day executive accountability for both the Structures and Roadways scopes, supporting the Project Director in delivering the project safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with contractual and stakeholder obligations.
The Deputy Project Director acts as a key member of the senior leadership team, ensuring strong integration across construction, engineering, commercial, project controls, and stakeholder interfaces while maintaining disciplined execution across all phases of the work.
What You’ll Do Here:
Support the Project Director in managing overall project performance across safety, quality, schedule, cost, and riskLead execution planning and sequencing for complex urban works, including structures, guideways, roadworks, interfaces, and stagingDrive coordination between construction, engineering, design management, project controls, and procurement teamsOversee construction execution for major civil scopes including structures, roadways, utilities coordination, and interface worksEnsure construction activities are delivered in compliance with design requirements, contract obligations, regulatory requirements, and Aecon standardsChampion a Safety‑First culture, ensuring safety systems, site leadership, and workforce engagement meet Aecon’s core value of Safety AlwaysSupport resolution of technical, constructability, and execution challenges in a dense urban environmentWork closely with Project Controls and Commercial teams to manage cost forecasting, cash flow, and earned value performanceIdentify risks and implement mitigation strategies to protect project outcomes.Support senior‑level engagement with the Owner, consultants, municipal partners, utilities, and third‑party stakeholdersAssist in managing interfaces across transit systems, utilities, road authorities, and adjacent developmentsFoster a collaborative, accountable, and results‑oriented team culture aligned with Aecon Leadership ExpectationsWhat You Bring to the Team:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline15+ years in senior construction leadership roles on major infrastructure or transit projects.Experience delivering complex civil works including structures, roadways, and urban infrastructure projectsStrong background working in Design‑Build, P3, Alliance, or Joint Venture delivery modelsSolid understanding of commercial management, change control, and project financial controls.Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teamsComfortable operating in complex, fast‑paced, and ambiguous environmentsExcellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholdersProven ability to build and sustain high‑performing teamsReason for Vacancy:
