The Project Manager will provide leadership throughout the planning, transaction/procurement and implementation phases for a multi project design and construction portfolio valued at approximately $4B within one of Ontario’s most complex infrastructure programs.
Success in this role requires sound project delivery and stakeholder management skills, the ability to adapt quickly and respond to a changing environment, and experience finding positive solutions to issues with clients and diverse teams of project consultants, specialists, and contractors. Presentation, consultation, negotiation, influencing and consensus building skills are also required.
What You Will Do:- Lead complex infrastructure projects through a project’s implementation phase. This includes finalizing design, construction, commissioning and to the final transfer of responsibility to operations.
- Manage the design, and construction of large and complex infrastructure projects delivered through traditional direct-delivery (stipulated sum, construction management, etc.).
- Manage relationships with various groups of internal and external stakeholders to mitigate project risks and ensure that project objectives are met.
- Lead presentations to seek approvals and demonstrate new concepts, including briefings for senior management and both internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead in coordinating with various internal and external team members to establish agendas, processes and procedures to advance business objectives and project outcomes.
- Background in Civil Engineering, or other relevant discipline to the design and construction industry.
- Substantial hands-on experience managing major complex infrastructure projects including direct hands-on management of consultants and contractors on site servicing projects (storm sewer, watermain). Experience working with the City of Toronto and Metrolinx as stakeholders of projects.
- Strong business acumen and experience in dealing with project budgets, schedules, project risks, technical requirements, and construction methodologies.
- Good understanding of traditional forms of contracts (e.g. Construction Manager at Risk, Design-Build) and P3 delivery models (e.g. Build-Finance, Design-Build-Finance, Design-Build-Finance-Maintain, etc.).
- Experience managing contractors, negotiating claims, scope changes and other compliance and contractual items on projects is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (both verbal and written).
