What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.5 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
The Superintendent will provide on-site coordination of all construction activities while ensuring the proper implementation of safety protocols. They will collaborate with stakeholders across the project to ensure key milestones are met and maintain accurate records of construction activities and costs.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
Supervise subcontractor teams within the area of controlEnsure that HSE is always guaranteed by enforcing a safe work environment, implementing and monitoring safety protocols, and conducting regular safety inspections to prevent accidents and mitigate risksManage and coordinate all construction activities on the project, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulationsMonitor the quality of work performed on-site to ensure adherence to industry standards, project requirements, and best practicesCollaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to develop and implement construction schedules, work plans, and resource allocation to meet project milestones and objectivesIdentify and address any issues or obstacles that may arise during the construction process, employing effective problem-solving skills to maintain project progress and minimize delaysMaintain accurate records of construction activities, including daily reports, progress updates, and any changes or deviations from the original plans. Provide regular reports to project management and stakeholdersMonitor project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment, and assist in managing the project budget, seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising quality and safety standardsReview of construction documentation (including the Safe Work Plan, JHA, Safety Plan)Coordination of activities required for site possession, including documentation and OPG’s permitsA degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferredA proven track record of at least 10-15 years as a Superintendent, preferably on Ontario Power Generation sitesExperience with earthworks, and utility relocationStrong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulationsExcellent leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide a diverse workforceEffective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with team members, stakeholders, and subcontractorsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills to address construction challenges and provide practical solutionsIn-depth knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environmentAbility to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environmentProficient in using construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applicationsAnnual gross compensation ranging from CAD 170K to CAD 210K, depending on experience and profileVehicle and gas card4 vacation weeksCareer development opportunitiesA cosmopolite and inclusive work environmentAttractive and challenging projectEntité
