Title:

Construction Safety Officer)

Perform construction assurance and compliance activities on the assigned Projects.

Support Project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and to implement effectively for the safe execution of the works.

Perform formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the relevant OHS legislation, standards and contract requirements.

Provide day to day oversight for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements, support with the identification of hazards and implementation of risk mitigation controls.

Review site activities and provide support for the protection of workers as well as public, infrastructure and operations.

Engage, coordinate and work with Integrated Project Team and internal/external stakeholders to provide consistent and continuous support.

In collaboration with the Integrated Project team, review, analyze and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe and efficient delivery.

Participate and/or support others with incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions.

Assist the Safety Director and Safety team with other tasks as required.

Working Conditions

5 Days a week on-site.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

Experience in railway safety, infrastructure and heavy civil

Education

College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management, or a combination of education and industry experience

Licenses OR Certifications

Holding a recognized certification in at least one of the following:
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Gold Seal Certificate (GSC) for Construction Safety Coordinator (CSC) or National Safety Officer (NSO) is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction regulations and its application to construction projects

Ability to arrange priorities and elevate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership

Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities

Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
