As a Technical Designer, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the creative and production aspects of the design process. Your responsibilities will include interpreting design concepts into technical specifications, collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams, and ensuring the seamless transition from design to production. You should have a strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and fit development with excellent communication and collaborative skills.
You are detail‑oriented with a keen eye for quality and precision, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Collaborate with designers and production teams to ensure the design aligns with the technical feasibility.
- Create and maintain accurate tech packs, including grade rules, construction details and material specifications.
- Conduct fit sessions, analyze prototypes, and provide constructive feedback to achieve optimal fit, function, and aesthetics.
- Collaborate with the team and vendors to meet design and quality standards.
- Manage wearer trials.
- Resolve technical issues that may arise during the production and fitting phase, ensuring timely and cost‑effective solutions.
- Time management - ensure timely and effective communication is provided to vendors.
- Coordinate model bookings for fitting and send out a detailed fit schedule, including date and time.
- Follow up on supplier technical queries, ensuring timely resolutions.
- Works cross‑functionally with Product Development and Sourcing to track production approvals to meet ex‑factory dates.
- Complete WIP report and tracker with fit and approval dates.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and production techniques to overall enhance the overall design and manufacturing process.
- Raise any product or delivery issues to the Director, Design & PD.
- Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Apparel Design/Production
- 5-10 years of experience in Technical fit, pattern making and construction of apparel as well as Hats/Accessories.
- Previous experience working with and/or implementing PLM systems an asset
- Experience with high-quality branded apparel and accessories
- Travel and hands‑on experience with offshore manufacturing and domestic production
- Effective communication skills – verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines in a stressful, high‑paced work environment.
- Pattern making Expertise:
Advanced skills in creating, adjusting, and grading patterns for a variety of apparel categories. - Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of garment construction and production processes. - Problem‑Solving:
Ability to troubleshoot fit and pattern issues quickly and effectively. - Initiative:
Proactive in identifying technical challenges and proposing solutions.
