CBC News is looking for a creative editorial leader with sharp news judgement to lead our live and daily audio news programming on the weekends.  As Senior Producer, Live & Daily News, Weekend Late Audio you drive daily programming with a hyper-focus on live and breaking national and international news for our hourly radio news and podcast programs, Your World Tonight and The World This Hour.  

You bring an audience-first mindset to the role, shaping compelling content that plays equally well as a podcast as it does on terrestrial radio. You are expected to steer daily editorial meetings, stimulate creative discussions, and identify the most impactful stories and treatments for the day.  You react decisively to major developments, track stories in real time and reshape shows on the fly to ensure our audiences are getting the content they need to know, now.

You support your colleagues across the CBC News system when it pivots to extended live coverage. Extensive studio skills are essential to succeed in this fast-paced setting.  You care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions and experiences. You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

You provide meaningful, constructive feedback; guide complex editorial decisions; and actively teach advanced writing and producing skills.  You ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.  Reporting to the Executive Producer of Live & Daily News, Weekends, you help meet CBC’s strategic goals, including working across platforms to meet audience needs no matter where they consume our content.  

Based in Toronto, this is a full-time, permanent position. The successful candidate will work a four-day compressed work week (Thursday to Sunday). Hours will be decided by operational requirements. You can expect some overtime, including early mornings and evenings when news is breaking.
