Planner, Design & Architecture, Environmental/ Urban Planning
WND Associates is a well-established and industry leading planning consulting firm led by a team of passionate planners and urban designers. We are looking for an ambitious Planner to apply their knowledge, experience and love of city-building, to join our team and play a key role in facilitating urban growth in Toronto and the surrounding region.
Job DescriptionThe Planner is responsible for working with our team of professional planning and urban design staff on a broad and diverse range of duties as assigned. Tasks include:
- Completing planning research and background reports for a wide range of residential, industrial, commercial and institutional development projects in Ontario;
- Preparing planning applications, under the guidance of more senior staff;
- Preparing appeal materials and documents for hearings;
- Preparing graphics for reports and presentations and as visual evidence for hearings, in collaboration with our in house urban team, as appropriate;
- Preparing draft by-laws;
- Preparing proposals and presentations for meetings;
- Participating in in-house and external project meetings; and
Liaising with developers, municipal planning staff and other consultants as part of an interdisciplinary project team.
Qualifications and Experience- University or College Degree in Planning or a related field;
- Working towards membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute;
- Employment or co-op/internship experience at a municipality, planning firm or developer;
- A keen interest in land use planning, development approvals and urban design, and passion for working on a diverse range of projects, in particular involving large scale housing intensification proposals and mixed use master plans;
- A overall understanding of the planning and development process in Ontario;
- Working familiarity with urban design principles and standards, as well as terminology;
- Self-motivation, strong analytical ability and good organization skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience with AutoCAD, Sketch Up and Adobe design as well as GIS software would be an asset, but not a requirement;
