HDR is looking for a Design Technician to work in our Toronto Studio and support the delivery of architecture projects across a variety of sectors.
Responsibilities- Maintain a culture of client-focused project delivery through high technical competency.
- Independently coordinate the work of a multidiscipline team through all phases of projects.
- Be involved in multiple projects at any one time.
- Actively participate as a member of our in-office studio, mentor junior intern architects and technologists.
- Organize and participate in construction documentation, including building envelope design, interior details, and coordination with various disciplines.
- Collaborate with project design teams to facilitate project execution through highly skilled detailing.
- Lead coordination efforts with outside and internal engineering consultants.
- Perform QA/QC and implement project milestone reviews, including technical reviews across projects.
- Understand architectural specifications in contract documents and coordinate with specification writers.

Shortlisted candidates will complete a Revit skills assessment to demonstrate proficiency with Revit software and related design tasks. Accommodations are available upon request.
Preferred Qualifications- 8–10 years of related experience.
- Experience with an architectural consulting firm.
- Experience on both small and large‑scale projects.
- Interest in sustainable design, LEED, or WELL.
- Strong computer skills in AutoCAD, Revit 3D modeling, and Microsoft Office.
- Preparedness for the layout of architectural contract documents and specifications.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast‑paced environment.
- Team player willing to learn, expand skillset, and handle versatile tasks.
- Proficiency in French is an asset but not required.
- Professional, self‑motivated, well‑organized, detail‑oriented.
- Technical degree or a minimum of 3 years of related industry experience.
- Technical competence with 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
- Competency in Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
- Experience with 3D coordination tools.
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits.
- Intermediate understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.
