Job Description & How to Apply Below

Our client is a leading designer and manufacturer of furniture solutions for workplace, education, healthcare, and related commercial environments. For more than 60 years, the company has combined thoughtful design, quality manufacturing, and practical product solutions to help people work, learn, and care more effectively.

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Interior Designer to join its Toronto design team.

The primary focus of this role is furniture specification and space planning. The successful candidate will translate project requirements and floor plans into attractive, functional, and accurate furniture solutions using AutoCAD, sketches, product selections, and supporting visual materials.

This position is well suited to someone who combines strong aesthetic judgment with practical technical ability. You should enjoy design, but also appreciate the detailed work required to organize information, select appropriate products and finishes, prepare accurate plans, and move projects through a clear process.

We are open to an early-career designer with an exceptional portfolio and meaningful internship or work experience, as well as a more experienced commercial designer who is interested in applying their skills within a stable, in-house furniture environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop functional furniture layouts and space plans based on floor plans, project requirements, and available products.
  • Prepare accurate AutoCAD drawings and revise plans as project requirements evolve.
  • Select and specify appropriate furniture products, configurations, materials, colours, and finishes.
  • Translate design ideas into clear sketches, plans, product selections, and presentation materials.
  • Produce or support interior renderings and other visualizations that help communicate proposed furniture solutions.
  • Apply sound space-planning principles, including scale, circulation, functionality, and the relationship between furniture and the surrounding environment.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized project drawings, specifications, product information, and revisions.
  • Review work carefully for completeness, accuracy, visual consistency, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal design and business partners to clarify requirements, solve design challenges, and deliver practical solutions.
  • Build strong knowledge of our client's furniture collections, applications, materials, finishes, and design standards.
  • Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and design quality.
  • Stay informed about relevant developments in commercial interiors, furniture, digital design, rendering, and workplace planning.
Required Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Interior Design or a closely related applied design discipline.
  • Strong working proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated space-planning ability and understanding of how furniture functions within an interior environment.
  • Strong aesthetic judgment, with an appreciation for grounded, enduring design rather than short-lived trends.
  • Ability to communicate design ideas clearly through drawings, sketches, product selections, and conversation.
  • Strong organizational skills and a process-driven approach to managing drawings, details, and revisions.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Comfortable learning and working with digital design tools, product information, and specification systems.
  • Portfolio demonstrating relevant interior design, space planning, furniture, or commercial project work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education from an accredited or recognized applied interior design program.
  • Previous internship, co-op, summer, or professional experience in interior design.
  • Experience with commercial interiors, workplace design, office furniture, contract furniture, furniture specification, or a furniture dealer/manufacturer.
  • Proficiency in Sketch Up.
  • Strong interior rendering or visualization skills.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape, V-Ray, CET Designer, 2020 CAP, Revit, or other relevant design and specification tools.
  • Familiarity with furniture systems, FF&E selection, materials, fabrics, finishes, and product application.
  • Ability to develop space-planning concepts quickly in sketch form.
