What you'll do
  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their vision, requirements, and budget constraints for various commercial and lifestyle projects.
  • Develop comprehensive design concepts that align with client expectations, ensuring functionality and aesthetic appeal.
  • Create detailed floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings using industry-standard design software, ensuring accuracy and clarity in all visual presentations.
  • Conduct site assessments and surveys to gather necessary information for design development and to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
  • Select appropriate materials, furnishings, and finishes that reflect the desired style and functionality of the project while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Prepare and present design proposals to clients, articulating design intent and rationale behind material and color choices.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to ensure seamless execution of design plans.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining timelines and budgets while delivering high-quality design solutions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and sustainable design practices to incorporate innovative ideas into projects.
  • Assist in the development of project documentation, including specifications, schedules, and procurement lists.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, providing expert insights and recommendations to enhance design outcomes.
  • Mentor junior designers and interns, providing guidance and support to foster their professional growth and development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in interior design, with a focus on commercial and lifestyle projects.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and industry standards relevant to interior design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach to design challenges.
Nice to have
  • Experience with sustainable design practices and knowledge of LEED certification processes.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools to streamline workflows and enhance collaboration.
  • Previous experience working in a design firm that specializes in commercial and lifestyle projects.
  • Membership in a professional design organization, such as the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) or the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
