Physician, Toronto South Detention Centre (Regular or Relief Schedules) Position Overview

Calian is currently seeking physicians to work at the Toronto South Detention Centre. Expected start date will be January 2026.

Working within an interdisciplinary health care team, the Physician will provide primary care medical services to marginalized and diverse populations within a Toronto-based correctional facility housing patients with complex health issues such as urgent, acute, chronic care, addiction and mental health issues.

• Perform physical examinations, review and document health records
• Diagnose and treat chronic and acute injuries and mental illness
• Collaborate with health team leads, specialists and community health providers
• Contribute to evolving healthcare best practices
• Work a minimum of 2 clinics (4 hours each) each week (weekday and weekend clinics available)
• Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately once every 4 or 5 weeks)
• Provide additional clinics up to full-time hours as needed

• Registered for Independent Practice in Family Medicine with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
• Malpractice insurance coverage with CMPA
• Valid OHIP billing number
• Ability to provide Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) as per CPSO guidelines
• Experience in addictions treatment (methadone/suboxone)
• Experience treating patients from marginalized and diverse populations
• Experience treating patients with mental health concerns
• Experience providing urgent or acute care
• Experience managing chronic and complex care
• Experience managing infectious diseases

• Must be able to obtain a Ministry of Ontario Security Clearance (including Vulnerable Sector Police Check)

• Security clearance and/or vulnerable sector screening may be required for this position
