The Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for a Clinician Investigator who has clinical expertise and strong research activities focused within the domain of Sjogren’s Disease. The successful candidate, who will be based at the Toronto Western Hospital site of University Health Network, will be tasked with establishing a clinical / translational Sjogren’s Disease (SjD) research program and to strengthen strategic partnerships with other centres of expertise in SjD.
Applicants must have recognized clinical and scientific credentials allowing them to be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date is negotiable but could be as early as July 1, 2026.
- Experience and expertise leading research studies and groups in SjD, particularly in the use of databases and biobanking for integration of molecular and clinical data for discovery studies.
- Experience in the management of complex patients with SjD and other rheumatologic conditions.
- Experience in the supervision of rheumatology trainees, medical residents and fellows; ability to participate in the teaching program and in patient education.
- Clinical work predominantly in the outpatient setting; participate as an attending physician for the rheumatology consultation service at University Health Network/Mount Sinai Hospital.
- Participate in the after-hours/weekend on-call schedule for the division across all UHN sites and Mount Sinai Hospital.
- Hold an MD or equivalent and have completed subspecialty training in rheumatology; eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
- Graduate training in an area of scholarship supporting research endeavours.
Clinical work will be predominantly in the outpatient setting; the candidate will be required to participate as an attending physician for the rheumatology consultation service and to participate in on-call coverage as described above.
Academic and compensation detailsAcademic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Remuneration and start-up funding are multi-sourced and include base salary support, funding through the Alternate Funding Plan and clinical (fee-for-service) billings. The salary range for an academic rheumatologist in Ontario is approximately $250,000 – 300,000 per year.
