Currently we have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent Full-Time Pathologist
The Pathologist will provide service in the speciality of Anatomical Pathology and Hematopathology/Immunohaematology.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Anatomical Pathology:
- Surgical pathology gross supervision, microscopic review and quick sections
- Cytology
- Presentation at Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Rounds
- Continuing education
2) Hematopathology:
- Interpretation of bone marrows,abnormal blood smears and lymph nodes
- Consultation regarding blood transfusion test and product result interpretation
3) Administration:
- Selects, establishes and supervises appropriate testing procedures and policies in Hematology/Immunohematology
- Monitors Quality Assurance and supervises external quality assurance testing in Hematology/Immunohematology with Senior Technologists
4) Educational Role:
- Provides teaching to laboratory medical students and resident trainees, and presents atclinical rounds as requested by physicians or the Chief of the Department
5) Committees:
- Sits on committees as requested by the Chief of the department Lab Safety:
- Adheres to lab safety standards and procedures as required by Ontario Statutes
6) Lab Safety:
- Adheres to lab safety standards and procedures as required by Ontario Statutes
EDUCATION
- Graduate of a recognized University Medical School
- Have or be eligible for certification in Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology (formerly Anatomic Pathology) or General Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or Anatomical and Clinical Pathology by The American Board of Pathology
- Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario.
- Hematopathology and transfusion medicine training and expertise is required; hematopathology fellowship training would be advantageous
- Subspecialty interest in Gynecological Pathology would be considered an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to independently report a wide variety of surgical pathology, cytology, and clinical pathology cases in a busy community academic hospital setting
- Ability and willingness to teach resident, medical students, technologists and technology students, and present at multidisciplinary rounds
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Interest in medical leadership and laboratory management would also be considered advantageous.
