Description

Are you an Emergency Physician seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity in a dynamic and progressive healthcare environment? Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is seeking passionate individuals to join our team. We serve as a regional referral centre with 1.2 million annual patient visits, including 64,000 ED visits, and are Canada's largest trauma centre.

We have a collaborative and collegial group of approximately 45 physicians committed to academic success and clinical excellence, with interests in pre‑hospital care, quality improvement, virtual care, technology, ultrasound, and medical education. Clinically, we provide care in a well‑resourced environment with a diverse patient population and comprehensive follow‑up support.

Sunnybrook is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and a core training site for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and other postgraduate and fellowship programs. Our staff serve as leaders in medical education and training, including POCUS and simulation programs.

Position Overview

Recruit qualified academic emergency medicine physicians to roles including Clinician Teachers, Clinician Educators, Clinicians in Quality & Innovation, and Clinician Investigators – up to eight full‑time positions. Successful candidates will be eligible for a Full‑Time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The appointment effective start date is July 1, 2027, or a mutually agreeable date.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver exemplary, efficient, and patient‑centred clinical care within a dynamic emergency medicine environment.
  • Supervise and support trainees, fostering high‑quality bedside teaching and mentorship.
  • Provide real‑time medical consultation to in‑field paramedic teams through the patch programme.
  • Engage with the University’s academic mission through education, quality improvement, research, and administrative initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Certification in Emergency Medicine (FRCPC, CCFP‑EM, or DABEM) and an MD or equivalent degree.
  • Strong clinical expertise and a commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Proficiency in English and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • Priority to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
Compensation

Estimated annual compensation of $300,000 to $400,000, reflecting full‑time clinical and academic contributions, provided through an Alternate Funding Arrangement (AFA) and an Alternate Funding Plan (AFP).
