About Toronto Metropolitan

At the intersection of mind and action, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) is on a transformative path to become Canada’s leading comprehensive innovation university. Integral to this path is the placement of equity, diversity and inclusion as fundamental to our institutional culture. Our current academic plan outlines each as core values and we work to embed them in all that we do.

About the School of Medicine

It’s time to transform medical education. Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Medicine will be designed from the ground up to shift the paradigm of healthcare delivery and improve the well‑being of individuals, families and communities. With a community‑driven, intentionally inclusive approach, the new school will train doctors whose cultural awareness and humility are as crucial as their medical skills.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Learning Environment Advisor to join the Learner Affairs team in the School of Medicine. The Advisor promotes and sustains a respectful, inclusive and safe learning environment by serving as a neutral and confidential point of contact for learners raising concerns related to mistreatment, professionalism, or respect. The Advisor will support the intake and documentation of disclosures, ensuring trauma‑informed, timely, and policy‑aligned responses.

The Advisor will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate appropriate next steps and ensure alignment with medical education accreditation standards.

Responsibilities Include

  • Mistreatment disclosures & learner support
  • Stakeholder collaboration and response planning
  • Accreditation compliance and reporting
  • Awareness, outreach and engagement
  • Community and cultural change

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post‑secondary degree in education, social work, public health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in student affairs, advising, conflict resolution, or a related support‑focused role in a post‑secondary, healthcare, or similar environment.
  • Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education.
  • Previous experience in medical education or working with medical learners would be considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of trauma‑informed and equity‑centered practices.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with impartiality, discretion, and empathy.
  • Knowledge of respectful learning environment principles, harassment and discrimination policies, and professionalism standards in health professions education.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills with ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate complex institutional structures and coordinate across multiple units and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards in medical education (e.g., CACMS).
  • Knowledge of university systems and applicable provincial/federal legislation.

Equal Opportunity Employer

TMU welcomes those who have demonstrated a commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity and inclusion and will assist us in realizing the benefits of embedding these values into the work at every level and in every unit of the university. TMU welcomes members of equity‑deserving groups that have been historically disadvantaged and marginalized, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Canada, First Nations peoples in the United States, racialized people, Black people, persons with disabilities, women, and 2

SLGBTQ+ people. Preference will be given to candidates with lived experiences as people from equity‑deserving groups, as well as experience working with these communities with which the University works every day. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply and we welcome newcomers and immigrants to Canada.
