Summary

As part of Employment Services (ES), the Employment Support Specialist helps individuals achieve their employment goals and conduct job searches within the Integrated Employment Services (IES) program. The role includes individualized assistance with career exploration, goal setting, skill assessments, interview preparation, and job readiness. It may also involve job‑retention support for clients needing additional coaching and mentoring.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Job Search – facilitate structured and individualized support for conducting successful job searches in group and/or individual settings.
  • Career Exploration – identify and clarify interests, abilities, skills, education, and experience, and link them to short‑ and long‑term career and employment goals.
  • Workplace Orientation – explain employer rules and expectations, rights and responsibilities, and Canadian workplace culture.
  • Life‑Skills Coaching – provide counselling and coaching in life skills that support successful employment.
  • Disability Disclosure – support individuals in disclosing disabilities that may affect employment participation.
  • Job‑Search Tools – prepare resumes, applications, interview techniques, and provide education and training options along with current labour‑market information.
  • Job‑Requirements Matching – assess client qualifications against job requirements.
  • Professional Accreditation – provide information about and access to professional accreditation, language credentials, and prior‑learning assessments.
  • Mentoring & Coaching – offer ongoing mentoring and coaching throughout the job‑search process.
  • Referral & Service Access – connect clients with other services, including education and training.
  • Enhanced Support – assist clients requiring intensified job‑search, mentoring, or retention services.
  • Itinerant Employment Services – develop and offer services within the local catchment area to new and existing partnerships.
  • Labour‑Market Updates – maintain up‑to‑date information on local labour market, community resources, and referral protocols.
  • Data Management – utilize the EOIS system, Service System Manager’s databases, and the internal One Client system for tracking, follow‑up, and activity recording.
  • Case Documentation – maintain case notes and document client engagement, progress, and results.
  • Cross‑Functional Support – provide assistance to Resource and Information and other areas of the IES delivery model as required.
  • Remote Delivery – continue operations under a remote delivery model when required.
Qualifications
  • University degree or college diploma in a related discipline.
  • 1–2 years of experience in an Employment Services role.
  • Experience delivering outcome‑based employment services.
  • Extensive experience with MLTSD’s Case Management System (EOIS CaMS).
  • Knowledge of Ministry‑Delivered Programs and related guidelines (e.g., Better Jobs Ontario).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in job search, placement, incentives, or job retention, including coaching.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience facilitating job‑search sessions in a group setting for adult learners.
  • Ability to learn new technology tools such as Achev’s data management system (CETRA).
  • Knowledge of labour‑market information and recruitment resources.
  • Experience working with diverse groups – adults, youth, newcomers to Canada, and other groups with specialized needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, outcome‑based environment.
  • Goal‑oriented, highly organized, flexible, and adaptable.
  • Superior time‑management skills.
  • Advanced computer skills – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and online employment tools.
  • Ability to deliver services in both official languages (English/French); other languages are an asset.
  • Knowledge of Level B tests, psychological instruments, Personality Dimensions, MBTI, COP System, or Life Skills Certification is an asset.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, or split shifts as necessary.
