Position: P/T High School Tutor for Math/Physics/Chemistry/Biology

Overview

P/T High School Tutor for Math/Physics/Chemistry/Biology at Oxford Learning Centres Inc. Markham South. This part-time position focuses on tutoring high school subjects in math and science, working with up to three students at a time, in-person at the learning centre with some online components as applicable.

Responsibilities (Position Details)
  • Teach up to 3 students at different levels, in-person and online as needed
  • Follow Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
  • Fill in post-lesson notes and complete daily student communication updates
  • Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times
Qualifications

We welcome applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field, or fourth-year university students with extensive tutoring experience
  • Teaching certification an asset
  • Good knowledge of current Grades 9-12 math and science curricula, including senior math (e.g., Advanced Functions, algebra, trigonometry, calculus) and science (vectors, physics, chemistry, biology)
  • Some experience teaching/tutoring math and science at Grade 9–12 or equivalent
  • Strong English communication skills and strong math skills; ability to guide students’ understanding
  • Ability to multitask and work with up to three students at a time
Role Details
  • Location:

    In-person at Oxford Learning Markham South (address provided in listing); in-person position with no relocation package
  • Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory
  • Applicants should reside in or near Markham for commuting purposes
Schedule & Compensation
  • Hours:

    After-school and evening hours (4:00pm–8:00pm) and some Saturdays (10:00am–2:00pm)
  • Shifts:

    Evenings and Saturdays as available
  • Salary: $18/hour with a 90‑day probationary period
  • Commitment through the end of the school year preferred; continuing through summer is beneficial
