The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office develops and implements initiatives aimed at advancing equity, diversity and inclusion within the learning and working environments across the Faculty of Arts & Science. In collaboration with staff and academic administrators in the Office of the Dean, Human Resources offices and various academic units, the EDI Office builds professional development and educational initiatives for all levels of the Arts & Science community.
The EDI Office also focuses on policies and practices concerning accessibility, anti‑racism, equity, diversity and inclusion.
Under the general direction of the Director, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, the Advisor, EDI is responsible for providing support to the EDI Office in the development, implementation and administration of the Faculty’s EDI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver ongoing EDI educational programs and outreach initiatives focused on the promotion of EDI initiatives at the Faculty, including supporting Faculty‑wide EDI related campaigns.
- Collaborate with the FAS community to develop and implement programming, educational and outreach initiatives related to EDI and anti‑racism.
- Act as a resource and provide independent confidential case intake for students, faculty and unionized and non‑unionized staff.
- Provide advice to academic leads, students and staff at the Faculty of Arts & Science with respect to available services, supports, options, relevant policies, and appropriate referrals.
- Support and conduct research assistance with Human Rights policy analysis and implementation.
- Support the development of the Faculty’s EDI educational curriculum and collaborate with the Director on the delivery of educational programming.
- Brief the Director on emerging issues as they are identified, analyze and revise documents and policy drafts, and research and provide support on special Faculty‑wide projects.
Graduate degree in a relevant area of study, preferably with a focus on dispute resolution, human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification or additional training in conflict resolution, equity and inclusion, and/or change management is an asset.
ExperienceMinimum four (4) years of related experience in delivering programming with an in‑depth understanding of complex and intersectional issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion in a post‑secondary setting or similar complex organization. Preferred experience includes:
- Understanding of equity and diversity issues as they relate to the student experience and the workplace.
- Experience in curriculum design and delivery, adult learning principles, group facilitation, assessment and evaluation techniques.
- Experience in developing antiracism and cultural diversity programming initiatives and case management.
- Project management and advancement of EDI projects within a post‑secondary environment.
- Research experience in developing public education materials and community initiatives related to human rights education.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA and related legislation/case law.
- Computer experience with standard office applications (Microsoft 365), SharePoint, web design skills, content management software (Word Press preferred), Acrobat and other Adobe software.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent internet research skills.
- Ability to discuss sensitive and complex matters with political acuity.
- Excellent writing, editing and research skills; interpersonal, leadership and facilitation skills.
- Strong social media skills; ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse constituencies in a team environment.
- Approachable, proactive, and ability to multi‑task, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
