Job DescriptionThe Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law and the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full‑time tenure‑stream position held jointly in the Faculty of Law (51%) and the Department of Philosophy (49%) in Law and Philosophy. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026

The successful candidate’s field of study should complement the research and teaching specialties of the Jackman Faculty of Law and the Department of Philosophy. We seek candidates whose research and teaching cover the areas of Criminal Law, Philosophy of Law, Political Philosophy, and Philosophy of Race. Diverse and interdisciplinary approaches to law are strongly encouraged.
QualificationsApplicants must:
- Hold a J.D. or equivalent degree and a doctoral degree in Philosophy.
- Have a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.
- Possess an established international reputation and be able to sustain and lead an innovative, independent research program.
- Maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Evidence of research excellence may be demonstrated by a record of sustained high‑impact contributions and publications in top‑ranked and field‑relevant journals, a submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards, and other noteworthy activities that enhance the visibility of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through:
- Teaching accomplishments and a teaching dossier submitted as part of the application.
- Strong letters of reference.
- For candidates invited to a campus visit, a presentation demonstrating excellence in teaching.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
