The Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time, tenure stream position in Process Intensification at the rank of Assistant Professor
, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026

Candidates must have earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field by the time of appointment, hold a baccalaureate degree in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent discipline
, and demonstrate excellence in both research and teaching
.
We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths in areas such as:
- Catalysis
- Thermodynamics
- Advanced separations
- Integrated chemical process design and optimization
- Scaling and modularizing chemical processes
- Novel energy inputs
- Applications in the areas of industrial decarbonization, CO₂ capture and conversion, energy‑efficient processes, the circular economy, and water recovery are particularly welcome.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Pursue innovative and independent research.
- Establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
- Teach in the chemical engineering curriculum at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Demonstrate the ability to sustain and lead innovative research advancing global frontiers of knowledge.
- Contribute to collaborative and interdisciplinary research and collegial departmental life.
Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is required.
Qualifications and Evidence of ExcellenceResearch excellence will be demonstrated by:
- Publications in top‑ranked and field‑relevant journals (or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards).
- Presentations at major conferences.
- Research awards, distinctions, and strong letters of reference.
Teaching excellence will be demonstrated by:
- A record of teaching accomplishments.
- A complete teaching dossier (including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance).
- Evidence of teaching‑related contributions such as student mentoring, instructional innovation, or educational outreach.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
