Design Teacher, Senior School

Using a lens of social-emotional learning, create a class environment that inspires and supports learning and personal growth;

Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education in accordance with each students ability;

Fosters a love of language and literature in young people;

Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty and other staff members;

Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is in line with the IB and Ministry of Education curriculum ensuring differentiation;

Develop culturally relevant, inclusive and responsive Design curriculums for diverse learners;

Develop course outlines, unit plans, lesson plans ensuring integration of all aspects of the IB Middle Years Program and Diploma Program curricula, with a focus on inquiry based learning;

Update all necessary records accurately as required by the Ministry, IBO and school guidelines;

Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings;

Keep up-to-date and incorporate best practices in subject area and approaches to teaching and learning through professional reading, participating in workshops and other professional development opportunities;

Participate actively in faculty and department/division meetings and meet regularly with all course teams to plan, review and update the written curriculum;

Assume responsibility for and participate in co-curricular activities and supervision duties.

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with a specialist in Technological Design;

Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent degree with I/S qualifications in Technological Design;

Minimum three years’ teaching experience preferred;

Experience in and knowledge of IB is a strong asset;

Extensive experience of the Vex V5/Vex iQ platforms is desired;

Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk Fusion and fabrication technologies is strongly desired;

Strong curriculum development skills and assessment practices that incorporate strategies relevant to the age and stage assessment practices;

A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies in their practice;

Experience and/or commitment to incorporating equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles into curriculum development and teaching practice;

Knowledge of Google for Education Workspace and Apple Technologies and able to work in a laptop and online environment;

Embraces innovation and collaboration;

Adept at leveraging technology to deliver education program and correspond with students, parents, colleagues and the community at large;
