Under the direction of the University College (UC), Librarian, the Library Technician will play a central role in supporting the daily operations, services, and collections of the UC Library. In this position, you will contribute directly to the student and faculty experience by delivering responsive reference services, coordinating circulation activities, directing student library assistants, performing cataloguing duties, ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of the physical collections, and promoting the library’s collections and services.
You will lead process improvements, maintain essential digital platforms, and support the creation of operational materials and communications. With a balance of independent work, collaboration, and public‑facing service, this role offers the chance to apply library expertise in a dynamic academic environment while helping to shape the library’s established reputation for service and collection excellence.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the circulation, reference, and collection areas, ensuring effective service delivery and smooth workflow across public‑facing and administrative activities
- Maintain the accuracy, organization, and accessibility of the library’s physical collections through cataloguing, processing, acquisitions support, and record maintenance
- Providing detailed information to users regarding library rules, guidelines and procedures
- Directing the activities of casual staff, and coordinating staff schedule to ensure proper coverage
- Contribute to the library’s online presence by maintaining library activities and services to students and faculty information on digital platforms
- Implementing plans and process improvements for administrative workflow, and reference administration, collections acquisition activities
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience, and two (2) year Library & Information Technician College Diploma
- Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience in a post-secondary, public or academic library
- Experience working with the Ex Libris integrated library system of Alma/Primo for circulation, cataloguing, and acquisitions
- Knowledge of metadata standards and cataloguing procedures, such as MARC
21, RDA, Library of Congress Classification and Subject Headings - Experience directing the activities of casual staff in a unionized environment
- Experience with digital repository platforms, discovery tools, or research databases
