200H1F - Conservation of Canada's Forests
Course description: This is a one-term online lecture course that introduces students to forest conservation of temperate forests with emphasis on Canadian forests and practices. It is a broad-based survey course discussing important issues in forest conservation including Canadian forestry in the world context, forest regions of Canada, forest ecology and the role of disturbances on forest development, forest certification, social aspects of forestry and human impacts on forests including silviculture, and forest management.
Students learn general principles of forest biology and management and biomaterials sciences. Other related topics are urban forestry issues, sustainable forest products, bioenergy and non-timber forest products.
Estimated TA support: 70 hours
Class schedule: The mode of delivery may include synchronous hybrid or online formats, to be approved by the Program Director.
Sessional dates of appointment: 1 May 2026 – 30 June 2026; please note that this position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by 30 June 2026

Minimum Qualifications: Teaching experience an asset.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. degree or extensive experience in forest conservation.
Description of duties: Prepare and deliver lectures, organize guest speakers, maintain course notes and readings on Quercus, set and mark course assignments, which may include mid-term, essay and final examination or other assignment, with the support of TA; compile, record and submit final marks. Be available to students through regular office hours.
