EQAO is seeking a dynamic individual interested in working in a fast-paced environment using cutting-edge approaches to online assessment items and design. EQAO creates and delivers engaging curriculum-based large-scale assessments for students that lead to insights into their learning and contribute to research and data analysis to support school and board improvement initiatives.

EQAO is looking to hire an educator to join the Literacy team responsible for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. Education officers are involved in all aspects of the assessment, including assessment and item development, review, administration, scoring and reporting. Education officers also review item statistics and provide insights and support on research initiatives. The role requires collaborating with team members, leading projects and prioritizing multiple initiatives to meet deadlines.

The successful candidate will

• coordinate, plan and lead large-scale education assessment projects;
• develop project plans, establish critical paths, monitor progress, produce reports and resolve issues;
• be involved and provide expertise in the design, planning, development, administration, scoring and reporting of the digital OSSLT;
• provide technical knowledge for the continued development of technology-enhanced assessment items and scorer training plans (language-based assessments);
• create, review and update related assessment support materials (e.g., user guides, presentations, reports), documents and policies;
• engage in and demonstrate technical expertise and leadership in the e‑assessment system and platform;
• support the design and development of assessment content and the digital platform with a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and student well‑being;
• develop, review and revise assessment items that meet statistical criteria and measure literacy skills aligned with The Ontario Curriculum across all subject areas up to the end of Grade 9;
• analyze assessment data and provincial results to support understanding of student achievement and for high‑level decision making;
• contribute to research initiatives relating to assessing, evaluating and reporting student achievement in literacy across the province;
• present research and assessment content to various stakeholders, organize and lead consultations and/or participate on committees with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., teachers, parents, school principals); and
• organize and lead consultations and develop consensus and understanding with stakeholders (e.g., teachers, parents, principals).

The preferred candidate will have

• a current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification and Registration and be in good standing with the College; and
• a minimum of five years’ teaching experience or equivalent demonstrated educational experience.

The preferred candidate will provide evidence of the following:

• knowledge of assessment practices, education theory and pedagogy as they relate to student achievement in literacy;
• a thorough understanding of the current Ontario Curriculum for secondary schools as well as experience implementing it;
