About usThe Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI) provides leadership in teaching and learning at the University of Toronto and provides support for pedagogy and pedagogy-driven instructional technology for all teaching staff and teaching assistants (primarily through the Teaching Assistant’s Training Program) across the university’s campuses and divisions. As a hub for the network of teaching centres across the institution, CTSI plays a vital role in supporting collaboration between the centres and with the divisions, supporting institutional teaching and learning priorities and teaching excellence across the university.
CTSI builds capacity among all our teachers, both faculty and graduate students.
The Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI) advances teaching and learning at the University of Toronto by providing pedagogical support and pedagogy-informed instructional technology services across all campuses and divisions.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director, Education Development manages CTSI’s Education Development (ED) team and delivers high-quality support for teaching and learning. The role focuses on applying evidence-based approaches to program and resource development, coordinating faculty and graduate student programming, and providing pedagogical guidance and consultations. This Associate Director also oversees job training and professional learning for graduate student Course Instructors and Teaching Assistants through the Teaching Assistants’ Training Program (TATP).
In consultation with the Executive Director, the Associate Director, Education Development provides integrative leadership and guidance for CTSI’s multidisciplinary Education Development team, which includes staff in education development, programming, communications, and operations. The role fosters a collaborative and coaching-based approach to achieving CTSI’s goals, supporting staff in setting priorities, coordinating activities, and delivering high quality programs and services. Through mentorship, clear communication, and ongoing feedback, the Associate Director helps build team capacity, strengthens cross-functional collaboration, and ensures that CTSI’s offerings are responsive, inclusive, and aligned with the teaching and learning priorities of the University.
This includes strategic planning, optimizing workflows, enhancing digital infrastructure, and integrating emerging technologies to strengthen service delivery and operational effectiveness.
The Associate Director, Education Development works collaboratively with the Executive Director and fellow Associate Directors to ensure coordination and alignment across CTSI’s portfolios. Within CTSI, the role contributes to shared leadership of initiatives that strengthen programs, services, and staff development. Within the University, the Associate Director builds and sustains partnerships that advance evidence-informed teaching and learning, working closely with divisional leaders and colleagues across campuses.
Beyond the institution, the role contributes to the broader field of educational development by sharing practices, collaborating with peers, and engaging with networks that support the advancement of teaching and learning in higher education.
Master’s degree or acceptable combination of education and experience. PhD strongly preferred.
ExperienceEight (8) years of relevant experience in supporting educational/faculty development in a higher education setting. Minimum of six (6) years related administrative experience at a senior level in a University setting. Knowledge of the structure of the University, its policies and procedures. Demonstrated success with the implementation of new initiatives and processes.
