The Opportunity:

For the 2026-27 academic year, we are seeking a Health and Physical Education Teacher to work in our Middle School on a part-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will teach 4 sections in Physical & Health Education, and coach a sport each season. In a community where social-emotional learning and diversity, equity and inclusion are key priorities, the successful candidate demonstrates empathy, creativity, as well as the ability to build a caring rapport with students and colleagues.

The successful candidate will join the Health and Physical Education team and report to the Instructional Leader for the department, with a dotted line reporting to the Head, Middle School.

This posting is for an existing vacancy with a projected start date of August, 2026.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Using a lens of social-emotional learning, create a class environment and rapport that inspires and supports learning and personal growth;

  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education in accordance with each students ability;

  • Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty and other staff members;

  • Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is in line with the IB and Ministry of Education curriculum ensuring differentiation;

  • Develop culturally relevant, inclusive and responsive Health and Physical Education curriculum for diverse learners;

  • Develop course outlines, unit plans, lesson plans ensuring integration of all aspects of the IB Middle Years Program curricula, with a focus on inquiry based learning;

  • Support students to develop interdisciplinary understanding through interdisciplinary units of inquiry, collaborating with faculty across disciplines;

  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by the Ministry, IBO and school guidelines;

  • Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings;

  • Keep up-to-date and incorporate best practices in subject area and approaches to teaching and learning through professional reading, participating in workshops and other professional development opportunities;

  • Participate actively in faculty and department/division meetings and meet regularly with all course teams to plan, review and update the written curriculum;

  • Assume responsibility for and participate in co-curricular activities and supervision duties;

  • Participate as an Advisor, mentoring students and meeting them regularly;

  • Coach three seasons or a full year through the academic year.

  • Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution;

  • Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent degree with I/S qualifications in Physical Education;

  • Minimum three years’ teaching experience preferred;

  • Passionate about tailoring teaching to the unique needs of Middle School students;

  • Current National Lifeguard Service certification, Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C” (issued from Lifesaving Society, Red Cross or St John’s Ambulance), and AED certifications, required;

  • Experience in and knowledge of IB is a strong asset;

  • Strong curriculum development skills and assessment practices that incorporate strategies relevant to the age and stage assessment practices;
