Description:
In this two-week intensive course, students will be introduced to the economic, social, and political dynamics connecting Canada and the US to the larger geopolitical environment. Canada's status as a medium-sized economy sitting next to the leading global market has always shaped developments in Canada, and coming to grips with the changing relationship is essential to understanding the future of Canadian public policy.
Similarly, Canada is a middle power in global politics and has long relied on a close security alliance with the US to punch above its weight. Whether that dynamic will continue is an open question, and it will shape geopolitical developments for the length of our students' careers.
The course will thus also explore Canada's relationship with the wider world: the UK and the European Union, Asia, and Africa. The course will draw on the Munk School's extensive network of alumni, faculty, fellows, and friends to introduce students to challenges faced by those who want to do business across the border, work with the US security establishment in foreign policy, and grapple with Canada's unique relationship with US power.
April 20-30th Monday-Thursday 10am-1pm

Minimum Qualifications:
- Completed B.A. and LL.B (or equivalent combination of undergraduate and professional legal training).
- Demonstrated expertise in diplomacy
, with a particular focus on U.S.–Canada relations
, supported by substantial professional experience in government, foreign service, policy advising, or related sectors. - Strong understanding of North American political institutions
, bilateral policy processes, and contemporary issues shaping U.S.–Canada relations. - Experience communicating complex policy, legal, or diplomatic concepts to diverse audiences in clear and accessible ways.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching, training, or public‑facing instructional experience, whether in academic settings, professional development, or government briefings.
- An active professional network within diplomacy, public policy, or international affairs that can enrich the learning environment.
Description of duties: Developing the syllabus, teaching 8 three‑hour lectures at the graduate level, providing weekly office hours for academic counseling of students, preparing and delivering course material, preparing and delivering assignments and tests; marking student work and submitting grades.
