The Karate Instructor delivers programming, develops short term lesson plans incorporating physical literacy guidelines and ensuring the unique needs of the participants are met. Instructors maintain a safe environment at all times.
In this role, you will:
Instruct participants in YMCA Karate ProgramDevelop and implements sequential weekly lesson plans based on YMCA program syllabusAssist Lead Instructor with GradingsRecognize participant learning styles and delivers content accordinglyCoach and develop participants to meet successCommunicate (verbal and written) child’s progress to parents and SupervisorMaintain accurate, up to date weekly progress sheets and records for participantsTake attendance, ensures participants are signed into and out of the programTake down equipment as required – at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation.)Build relationship with members and seeks opportunities to share the YMCA story and educates members and guests on the YMCA as a CharityEnsure qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and regulatory standards are current at all timesActively participate in scheduled programs, meetings and special eventsIn collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assist and encourage program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this locationUnderstand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staffOther duties as assignedYou bring:
Current Standard First Aid & CPR level CMinimum 1 year of active Karate trainingExperience teaching Youth Leadership an assetWell-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteersExcellent written and verbal communication skillsCommitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belongingFlexibility regarding schedule, including days, evenings and weekendsWhat you need to succeed:
