We seek an individual inspired by our mission, whose beliefs align with our core values of integrity, compassion, inquiry, and courage, and who reflects our core competencies to join our STEM Coordinator position in the Junior School. This is a full‑time position, starting in September 2026.
Compensation & Placement Salary is determined by the Havergal Faculty Grid, ranging from $74,711 – $106,714 for early‑career faculty and $107,078 – $140,448 for those with 6+ years of experience. Final placement is based on recognized teaching years, degrees, and Additional Qualifications (AQs).
PositionThe STEM Coordinator leads the development of a cohesive JK–6 STEM program that brings science and technology to life through inquiry, design thinking, real‑world problem solving, and interdisciplinary learning. Working in partnership with faculty, students, and school leadership, the Coordinator fosters engaging and meaningful learning experiences aligned with the Ontario curriculum. Guided by Havergal’s mission to prepare young women to make a difference, this role empowers teachers to centre student thinking, spark curiosity, and cultivate agency in every learner.
The STEM Coordinator is an experienced educator with a deep understanding of student‑centred pedagogy and inquiry‑based learning. They bring an innovative mindset and demonstrate instructional leadership by empowering teachers to design and facilitate rich, engaging STEM experiences. With a genuine passion for science and technology, the Coordinator builds strong relationships with colleagues and is a trusted, knowledgeable partner in advancing teaching and learning.
As a member of the Junior School faculty and a collaborative team of curriculum coordinators, the STEM Coordinator contributes actively to the life of the school. They work collegially with faculty, engage parents as partners in their daughter’s learning, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth. This role extends beyond the classroom, with active participation in the broader life and community of the school.
SpecificAccountabilities
- Build a cohesive JK−6 STEM vision that emphasizes inquiry, design thinking, real‑world problem solving and interdisciplinary learning.
- Partner with teachers to design and implement rich, inquiry‑based STEM learning experiences that bring the Ontario Science and Technology curriculum to life, emphasizing scientific understanding, skill development, and real‑world application.
- Design and facilitate rich, hands−on STEM learning experiences that foster curiosity, creativity and iterative problem solving in students.
- Meet regularly and partner with teachers to co−plan science units, and to co−teach lessons where appropriate to foster long−term capacity for teacher development.
- Support teachers in developing unit plans and lessons in science and technology emphasizing the use of observational activities, design challenges, inquiry activities and research projects related to science and technology.
- Support the appropriate application of mathematical concepts in science and technology activities in coordination with the Mathematics coordinator.
- Support teachers in developing authentic assessment strategies in STEM, including documentation of inquiry, feedback cycles, and evaluation of student understanding.
- In consultation with the Dean of Academics, Head of the Junior School and Junior School faculty, determine and implement program changes as deemed necessary to support student engagement and learning.
- Design and curate the Junior School STEM lab as a dynamic learning environment that provokes curiosity, supports experimentation and enables hands−on learning. Keep the space organised and equipped with resources that support the science and technology program in compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
