Role Overview

The Senior Learning & Development (L&D) Specialist will play a critical role in supporting organizational training needs during a one‑year maternity leave coverage. This position provides advanced expertise in instructional design, facilitation, and training coordination to ensure the delivery of high‑quality learning experiences. The Specialist will help meet urgent client requirements, while increasing capacity for the L&D Manager to focus on strategic initiatives outlined in the 2026 L&D Business Goals.

This role is ideal for an experienced L&D professional who excels in fast‑paced environments, can manage competing priorities, and consistently delivers high‑quality learning solutions.

Role Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and facilitate training programs for new hire cohorts and experienced staff across complex operational workflows.
  • Update legacy learning materials to reflect current business processes, systems, and client requirements.
  • Create assessments and evaluation tools to measure learner performance and program effectiveness.
  • Ensure all training materials are accurate, consistent, and aligned with adult learning best practices.
  • Coordinate training activities to support new hires, fulfill skills‑based requests, and deliver refresher sessions.
  • Support ongoing training needs across Business Operations and the broader organization.
  • Conduct learning needs analysis and facilitate cross‑functional intake meetings to scope and prioritize training requests.
  • Maintain training quality under tight timelines while managing multiple concurrent deliverables.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and feedback to junior L&D team members on training design, development, facilitation, and outputs to support their development and ensure quality standards.
  • Share knowledge of best practices to junior L&D team members to improve training practices and foster team development.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional partners to build strong relationships and deliver on clearly defined training objectives.
  • Support and oversee two summer interns, ensuring meaningful learning experiences and outputs.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to training development, planning, and documentation.
  • Contribute to strategic L&D initiatives.
  • Ensure all activities contribute to high client satisfaction, operational readiness, and overall business impact.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of hands‑on experience in developing, coordinating, facilitating, and evaluating training programs within complex operational or client‑service environments. Certification in Adult Learning, Instructional Design, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Articulate 360, and other e‑learning authoring tools, with the ability to quickly learn new tools such as Synthesia.
  • Strong research, information gathering, analytical and problem‑solving skills; able to take a logical approach to analyzing problems. Systematically research information and explore alternatives to solve problems.
  • Continuous learning mindset and ability to promote learning while building and sustaining strong working partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Proven design thinking, problem solving and decision‑making capability.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Availability to conduct in‑person training Monday to Friday during business hours, as required.
Beneficial Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of the Mutual Fund industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of financial services back office functions (processing, call center).
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) i.e. Cornerstone.
  • Solid understanding of the Canadian Distribution Model (i.e. KYC, OSC, Documentation).
  • Canadian Securities Course and/or IFIC Mutual Funds Course and/or Segregated Funds Course.
