Skills for Science Communication
GPD Career Course:
Skills for Science Communication will help students become better communicators (of their research) and to explore careers in Science Communication. Students will gain a better understanding of how to communicate science effectively to diverse audiences, in diverse mediums and have opportunities to practice these skills through class participation and assignments. The course will build a foundational understanding of the skills needed to be an effective communicator of science and to succeed in a science communication‑related career and how to position these skills in applying for jobs.
Students will not only hone their own science communication skills in class, they will produce a piece of high‑quality work that can be added to their portfolio when having to substantiate their communications skills in job applications.
Class Schedule
September 21, 2026 to November 30, 2026 from 10 am – 12 pm
Sessional Dates of Appointment
September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026
Salary
In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement:

Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD degree in biomedical science or a related discipline and have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in science communications (preferably in an academic setting). Applicants must also have experience developing curriculum and demonstrated effective teaching in a college or university setting. Prior experience teaching biomedical graduate students is an asset.

Development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams
Calculation and submission of grades
Holding regular office hours
