Overview
The Department of Biochemistry in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full‑time continuing teaching stream position in the field of Biochemistry. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an expected start date of October 1, 2023 or shortly thereafter.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and teach a variety of undergraduate courses in biochemistry, including topics such as protein structure and function, enzyme kinetics, and metabolism.

Deliver both lecture‑ and laboratory‑based instruction using a variety of delivery modes (in person, online).

Administer and coordinate course logistics, manage teaching assistants, develop course materials and assessments, support students in person and electronically, and monitor and maintain academic integrity.

Experience teaching laboratory courses and/or large‑enrollment courses is an asset.

Qualifications

PhD degree in biochemistry or a related discipline (by date of appointment).

Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in biochemistry or related disciplines.

Commitment to improving pedagogical practices and interest in scholarship of teaching and learning.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Experience teaching laboratory courses and/or large‑enrollment courses is preferred.

Evidence of Excellence
Evidence can include course evaluations, teaching accomplishments, innovative course development, awards and accolades, mentorship activities, and/or presentations at educational conferences. Applicants are expected to submit a teaching dossier that includes a reflective teaching statement or philosophy, sample syllabi, course materials, teaching evaluations, and strong letters of reference from referees familiar with their teaching ability.

Salary
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
