Graduation Coach for Black Students (Exempt Level
2) – $71,336.00 - $89,169.00
TCDSB serves approximately 84,000 students in nearly 200 Catholic schools in the City of Toronto. We are seeking a temporary twelve‑month (12‑month) position within the Indigenous Education, Equity & Community Relations department to support Black students through mentorship and advocacy.

Key Accountabilities- Act as a mentor and advisor to Black students, advocating for their needs.
- Engage students by affirming their identities and culture through culturally responsive methodologies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders that support Black student learning.
- Provide professional learning to staff on anti‑racism, anti‑oppression, and dismantling anti‑Black racism.
- Work with the Equity team and other stakeholders to create a long‑term vision for at‑risk Black students.
- Develop safety plans for students during program breaks.
- Maintain detailed information on each student to track academic achievements and well‑being.
- Create a space for students to voice experiences and establish trusting relationships.
- Identify and address individual barriers to engagement, learning, and well‑being.
- Collaborate with administrators and community stakeholders to respond to systemic barriers (academic, mental health, justice).
- Facilitate access and referrals to academic support and community resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a 3‑year college diploma/degree in Social Sciences, Counselling, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience providing mentoring, outreach, and supportive services to students in person and/or virtually.
- Preference for candidates who self‑identify as Black/African Canadian or who possess first‑hand experience in local Black communities.
- Understanding of barriers faced by Black students.
- Awareness of local community resources and ability to guide students in accessing them.
- Understanding of the intersections of race, gender, faith, socio‑economic status, ability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
- Ability to identify systemic barriers such as anti‑Black racism, Islamophobia, and other forms of oppression and to propose interventions.
- Inclusive approach to relationship building with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, sensitivity, and ability to build rapport.
- Experience handling contentious issues with confidentiality and discretion.
