Position: Gallery Operations Assistant (YCW—Building Careers Contract)

-26 hours per week, including Saturdays and some evenings

-28-week, fixed term contract

-Wage: $21.00/hour + 4% vacation pay

-Duration:
September 2, 2025—March 28, 2026 (two week unpaid closure in December)

Gallery 44 is a dynamic space and artist-run centre led by a group of artists, curators and educators. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support all three pillars of our programming mandate—Education, Membership and Exhibitions . The Gallery Operations Assistant will support membership, seasonal workshops series and youth programs and exhibitions.

The role is designed to offer an emerging arts worker the opportunity to gain hands‑on, working knowledge of G44's arts administration and programming—assisting with front desk services (including equipment and facilities rentals), membership onboarding and orientation, educational workshops for youth and adult learners and exhibitions program. The Operations Assistant will work directly with members, artist‑educators, artists and Gallery 44 staff. This 26‑hour per week position runs from September 2025 to March 2026.

The role offers a post‑secondary graduate the opportunity to develop new skills in a collaborative work environment, alongside a supportive and engaged community of arts professionals and volunteers.

Supporting the planning and implementation of educational workshops for youth and adult learners, the intern will assist the Curator of Education with a variety of active programs, via the following tasks:

  • Darkroom Club: manage registration, schedule facilities and procure workshop supplies and materials.
  • What Next:
    New‑Gen Artist Symposium: draft contracts, manage registration and participant correspondence and facilitate program implementation.
  • Camera Links: prepare and distribute the call for participation and related promotional materials, correspond with teachers, students and industry professionals, manage contracts, forms, artwork inventory and assist with installation.
  • Seasonal Workshops: support the administration and technical delivery of online and in‑person workshops, register events and participants with third‑party platform Eventbrite, procure materials for workshops and assist instructors as needed.
  • General: populate workshop webpages in accordance with preset style guides, manage registration and waitlists.

2. Membership and Facilities:

Supporting membership recruitment, orientation and engagement, the intern will assist the Head of Membership with the following tasks:

  • Liaise with volunteers and new member recruits to arrange onboarding sessions including equipment orientations
  • Schedule ongoing member‑led programs like critique sessions, portfolio reviews, darkroom printing parties, and register participants
  • Process equipment rentals for members
  • Manage space bookings for members

3. Exhibitions and Public Programs

Supporting the lead‑up planning and production of public programs to support in the Main Gallery exhibitions, the intern will assist the Curator of Exhibitions with the following tasks:

  • Gather images and promotional copy from artists and program leaders
  • Develop content in consultation with the Curator and Head of Communications
  • Populate program web pages in accordance with preset style guide
  • Register events and participants via Eventbrite
  • Determine technical requirements, source materials and supplies as needed

To facilitate logistics and support communications for Members’ Gallery exhibitions, the intern will assist the Head of Membership with the following tasks:

  • Schedule and facilitate joint planning meetings with group show artists
  • Schedule installation timelines and equipment and source materials as needed
  • Gather images and promotional copy from artists and program leaders
  • Develop content in consultation with the Head of Communications
  • Populate exhibitions webpages

4. Communications:

The intern will support two streams of newsletter communications: the BULK, our bi‑weekly members‑only newsletter and our public subscriber newsletter.
