Student Recruitment Assistant
Purpose
The Student Recruitment Assistant supports York University’s recruitment activities for the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) by actively promoting its programs and cultivating relationships with prospective students, educators and families. The role delivers recruitment presentations that effectively communicate AMPD academic excellence, creative culture and program offerings. These presentations are delivered in secondary schools across Ontario, with a focus on art schools and arts classrooms.
The Student Recruitment Assistant also coordinates and schedules school visits, facilitates outreach initiatives, and distributes recruitment material to schools. The role serves as a key point of contact for prospective students, guidance counsellors and parents by providing accurate and timely information through in‑person interactions, email correspondences and virtual meetings. The role supports and assists with coordinating activities at key recruitment events including the Ontario Universities Fair, Fall Campus Day, and National Portfolio Day.
Collectively, these efforts contribute to attracting, informing and supporting a diverse, talented and highly motivated pool of applicants to AMPD’s wide range of academic and artistic programs.
University degree required, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
ExperienceOne (1) year recent related experience (e.g., public relations, customer service, marketing, student advising/counselling, etc.), including making effective presentations in an educational environment.
Skills- Effective communication skills to present detailed information concisely and clearly, public speaking and making effective presentations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret information.
- Effective interpersonal and public relations skills, dealing courteously and effectively with people, tact and diplomacy.
- Effective organizational skills, working independently and setting priorities.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative, working effectively under pressure of time constraints.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the Ontario university educational system, admissions criteria and AMPD programs, previous interaction with secondary school‑aged students, guidance/educational counsellors, or teachers.
- Understanding of arts schools and arts programs.
Requires a valid Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract upon being hired. The applicant must provide verification of the satisfactory Driver’s Abstract at the time of hiring. Applicant must also provide verification of degree(s), credential(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions at the time of interview.
