The ISA provides culturally informed advising, drawing on knowledge of Indigenous diversity and nuance, institutional policies, systems, regulations, and guidelines, and offers guidance to students facing financial challenges, registration issues, program changes, or academic difficulties, tailoring support to each student’s context and needs.

As part of a broader network of advising and service professionals, the ISA contributes to Humber and the University of Guelph‑Humber’s exceptional learning environment, plays a leadership role in designing, delivering, and evaluating Indigenous Student Success events, programs, and initiatives, and provides strategic recommendations to enhance institutional service standards. The ISA works closely with faculties and service areas to identify and address systemic issues, coordinate case conferencing, make meaningful referrals, and deliver training sessions to enhance the quality of advising for Indigenous students.
