Qualifications - CE Course Specific QualificationsTo teach this course, the following course specific teaching qualifications must be met, and evidence included in a teaching.
Education- Applicants must have an LLB or JD; applicants with an LLM or Doctorate in Law, completed or in progress, preferred
- Applicants with related legal practice preferred
- Applicants who have been called to the bar are preferred
- Applicants with related university-level teaching experience are preferred. Applicants should submit evidence (student, peer, supervisory assessments) regarding their recent successful teaching experience and include the names of references who may be contacted. Courses taught at Toronto Metropolitan University are preferred
- Applicants with related continuing legal education are preferred
- Applicants who have published academic and/or legal work are preferred. Applicants should submit samples of recently published work
- Evidence of teaching effectively to adult learners and/or evidence of teaching effectively in a post-secondary environment which may include relevant assessment tools or equivalent documentation
- Evidence of ability to interact effectively with adult learners and colleagues in a diverse and inclusive environment; ability to work effectively in groups; ability to resolve conflicts constructively
- Evidence of ability to include equity, diversity and inclusion into their teaching
- Ability to empathize with others and consider varied perspectives
- Ability to carry out the duties and obligations of a CECL in accordance with Article 12 of the Collective Agreement
- Demonstrated experience of ability to effectively teach in an online environment which includes demonstrated knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of online courses, including using course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course.
- Evidence of having maintained up to date knowledge in online teaching. Successful completion of the Chang School's Teaching Adult Learners Online (TALO) preferred.
- Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of personal computers that are relevant to this course, including document creation, file management, internet research, and communications
- Applicants must demonstrate their knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of online courses as adopted by The Chang School, including, but not limited to:
Use course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work Respond to student academic and course administration inquiries in a timely manner and refer students to technical support or student support when appropriate Ensure academic integrity in the creation and administration of assignments, tests, and exams in an online environment
The rate of pay for credit courses is $189.36 per hour.
Contract end date for CE Contract Lecturers is the final grade submission date each term, not the course end date. This allows CECLs to continue to have access to University premises and systems up to the date they must submit their final grades to the University.
On offer of a teaching contract, successful applicants for whom the Chang School has no transcripts on file will be required to furnish the Chang School with official, original academic transcripts issued by their advanced degree granting institutions.
