Job Summary

Provide leadership in the development and improvement of the District's high schools.

Essential Duties
  • Ensure that the mission and objectives for Horry County Schools are implemented through participatory decision‑making processes at the District and at individual sites.
  • Monitor and respond to student achievement measures on mandatory state assessments.
  • Ensure that high schools offer academic assistance programs for grades 9-12.
  • Supervise and participate in the annual evaluation of high school principals.
  • Work with high school principals to increase communication among teachers, parents, and the community.
  • Monitor high school principals' hiring practices to ensure quality and diversity among staff members.
  • Promote and monitor school schedules that maximize the use of time, space, and personnel.
  • Keep abreast of best knowledge and practice and innovations in high school education and facilitate the implementation of these developments.
  • Work closely with the high school principals to assist in maintaining proper accreditation with the State Department of Education and Advanc Ed.
  • Facilitate the effective operations of high schools through collaboration with all district-level departments.
  • Participate in Human Resources processes for the selection of high school principals.
  • Serve as the liaison for high school principals with all divisions of the district office in order to facilitate solutions to specific school problems.
  • Collaborate with Learning Services staff to implement the state's curriculum standards as well as district instructional programs.
  • Evaluate and review the performance of assigned district office staff.
  • Collaborate with other Executive Directors to assure quality control and continuous improvement for all academic programs at all grade levels.
  • Promote and support the professional development of secondary school principals and program administrators.
Other Duties

Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Academic Officer and/or the Superintendent.

Job Specifications

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy and the Administration's plans for evaluating District Office Learning Services Personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required)
  • Master's Degree in Education from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on administration.
  • A valid teaching certificate with certification as a secondary principal/supervisor.
  • At least five (5) years of successful experience as a public secondary school principal.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Administration and/or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry.
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
