Overall Purpose

The goal of the Native Language Program is to generate an education delivery model that improves educational outcomes for Indigenous students. The program model allows students to work at their own pace with individualized instruction in a non-competitive environment. The program’s foundation and success are based on traditional practices while offering “wrap‑around” services that meet the needs of Indigenous students and foster positive Indigenous identity, academic success, and overall well‑being.

The Indigenous Native Languages Program in the TDSB focuses on the acquisition of Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin) language skills.

The successful candidate will report to the System Superintendent for Indigenous Education, will be supervised locally by the school Principal, and will be supported by the Urban Indigenous Education Center.

Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver individualized instruction in Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin) to elementary students.
  • Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development within a culturally responsive framework.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and community members to integrate traditional knowledge and practices into the curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to reporting requirements.
Qualifications
  • Lived experience as a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit person.
  • Demonstrated ability to advance human rights and take actions that address racism in all its forms, while promoting equity and demonstrating anti‑oppressive pedagogy.
  • Proof of eligibility to teach in Ontario (e.g., Ontario College of Teachers credential).
Salary

Salary will be paid in accordance with the salary provisions for teachers in the Elementary Teachers’ collective agreement.

Application Requirements
  • Up‑to‑date resume/CV.
  • Cover letter indicating an interest in the position (include employee number, Ontario College of Teachers number, and current work location).
  • Copy of your up‑to‑date Ontario College of Teachers Qualification Certificate.
  • Copy of your Eligible to Hire letter (if applicable).
  • 2025‑2026 Contract Vacancy Application Form, completed and submitted online.
Additional Information

Applicants must submit their interest by 12 Noon on the posting end date. Applications received after 12 Noon may not be reviewed.
