Description:
Freshwater environments support diverse communities of plants and animals that are controlled by both biotic and abiotic factors. Organisms respond to changes in the habitat through detectable shifts in population abundances and the loss/gain of species. Monitoring such biological changes in freshwater communities is an established protocol for assessing the condition of rivers, lakes and ponds subject to human influence.
This course will have a large practical component in which students will have the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to evaluate the condition of aquatic environments variously affected by urbanization.

Specific duties will occur between September 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.
Working Hours: Mondays 7 PM - 9 PM. Availability during these times is required.
CompensationStarting September 1, 2026 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay:
- $9,997.47 for a Sessional Lecturer I
- $10,699.21 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term
- $10,699.21 for a Sessional Lecturer II
- $10,953.96 for a Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term
- $10,953.96 for a Sessional Lecturer III
- $11,228.91 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term
Rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail if they differ from those listed above.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduate degree in Aquatic Biology or related field
- Appropriate field experience, with biomonitoring protocol experience essential
- Past teaching experience is a more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position
- Design and teach a graduate-level university credit course, including preparation and delivery of lectures and labs
- Develop, create, administer, and mark assignments; manage course marks
- Hold office hours
- Supervise a teaching assistant and participate in the instructor/course evaluation process by students
- Undertake any additional normal duties related to the course
