7008H - Introduction to Special Education and Mental Health
Course number and title: CTL
7008H – Introduction to Special Education and Mental Health
Course description: In Ontario, the regular education classrooms are currently the placement of choice for students with disabilities. This movement toward inclusive education has occurred for a variety of reasons: legal, educational, moral and philosophical. In this course, teacher candidates will consider special education from the perspective of the regular classroom teacher. From this perspective, special education is not "special" but is effective teaching that benefits all the students in the class.
The course focuses on adapting instruction to meet the diverse needs of the students and using instructional assessment to calibrate instruction, accommodate learner differences, and collaborate with other professionals to meet provincial requirements for inclusion. This course is open only to students in the Master of Teaching program and does not allow concurrent enrollment in HDP
2280.
