Course OverviewCourse examines Chinese cultural traditions and values through contemporary media produced in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Background readings and literary works provide historical and cultural context. Class discussions focus on political, social, and cultural transformations, with special attention to family, class issues, gender, and identity.

Salary:
- Sessional Lecturer I – $9,997.48 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
- Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $10,699.22 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
- Sessional Lecturer II – $10,699.22 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
- Sessional Lecturer II Long Term – $10,953.96 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
- Sessional Lecturer III – $10,953.96 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
- Sessional Lecturer III Long Term – $11,228.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Required:
Ph.D. in Chinese literature, film studies, cultural studies or a closely related field. Demonstrated expertise in Chinese cultural studies and experience teaching university‑level courses in Chinese film or culture. Near‑native fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
Preferred:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course or a similar university‑level course. Preference given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or III.
- Design and teach a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content.
- Interact with students outside class via e‑mail and office hours.
- Develop, administer and mark assignments, tests and exams.
- Calculate and submit grades.
- Order necessary readings.
