As part of our commitment to Indigenous Education and in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action, the role supports the growth and development of culturally safe education and professional practice. The successful candidate will teach predominantly in the Early Childhood Education and Nursing programs, develop curriculum, and teach courses or modules within a variety of programs in the Faculty.
The role adds breadth to the faculty’s current course offerings focusing broadly on Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Determinants of Health, and/or Indigenous Cultures, Pedagogies, Histories, and Contemporary Experiences.
The candidate will weave Indigenous ways of being, knowing and doing in the classroom, build and/or support Indigenous research, scholarly or artistic work, develop land‑and‑culture based pedagogy, and maintain and develop community partnerships with regional Indigenous communities. Some teaching will be land‑based and take place in the Humber Arboretum or other outdoor spaces.
Responsibilities- Teach courses and modules in Early Childhood Education, Nursing, and related programs.
- Develop and deliver Indigenous-themed curriculum and modules.
- Integrate land‑and‑culture based pedagogy into instructional design, assessment, technology, and learning outcomes.
- Provide consultation and support to faculty to integrate Indigenous content into their courses.
- Design and deliver workshops, training, and instructional supports for faculty and students.
- Provide quality assurance support and guidance for inclusion of Indigenous content in program curricula.
- Gather feedback from faculty and students to assess effectiveness of strategies.
- Build capacity and support for Indigenous students in collaboration with faculty.
- Collaborate with Indigenous communities to build mutual understanding and strengthen Humber’s relationships.
- Maintain and develop community partnerships with regional Indigenous communities.
- Minimum of a Master’s degree;
PhD preferred. - Minimum of five years of teaching experience in postsecondary education with a record of teaching excellence and classroom innovation.
- Significant experience working with Indigenous communities in a health‑related capacity.
- Strong command of decolonizing/anti‑racism pedagogical principles, equity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of the political nature of Indigenous Education and ability to navigate difficult conversations.
- Research and/or teaching experience in social justice, anti‑bias, and Indigenous knowledge systems.
- Ability to weave Indigenous curriculum and pedagogies into instructional design and assessment.
- Experience designing and delivering workshops and training for faculty and students.
- Experience with quality assurance and curriculum alignment.
- Strong interpersonal communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Proven contribution to curriculum development and delivery.
