This course is designed for heritage students of Arab origin who may have had passive exposure to Arabic but have never formally studied reading and writing. The course will introduce the Arabic alphabet, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing skills through authentic texts from contemporary literature, magazines, and newspapers. By the end, students will be prepared for advanced Arabic reading, literature, and language courses.

Minimum Qualifications- Ph.D. in Arabic cultural studies, literature, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in Arabic cultural studies and experience teaching university‑level Arabic culture courses.
- Native or near-native Arabic language fluency.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course or a similar university‑level course.
- Preference given to individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or III per Article 14:12.
- Design, prepare, and deliver the university credit course.
- Provide out‑of‑class interaction via e‑mail and office hours.
- Develop, administer, and mark assignments, tests, and exams.
- Calculate and submit grades.
- Order all necessary readings.
