Co‑taught 0.5 FCE course; the hired Sessional Lecturer will teach a module equivalent to 0.10 FCE.

Course description: The MScAc degree is intended to create technical leaders capable of transferring new ideas and technologies from academia to industry. Companies seeking to develop innovative solutions to technology-related problems face a critical need for technically sophisticated professionals who are aware of advanced research ideas and can identify commercial opportunities for such ideas. These individuals will provide the conduit between university research and the world of industry, offering substantial benefits of both.

Estimated course enrolment: Maximum 40 students per section

Estimated TA support: To be determined in consultation with the instructor

Class schedule: Up to four sections: LEC
5101 biweekly on Wednesdays, 6:00‑9:00 pm; LEC
5201 biweekly on Wednesdays, 6:00‑9:00 pm; LEC
5301 biweekly on Thursdays, 6:00‑9:00 pm; LEC
5401 biweekly on Thursdays, 6:00‑9:00 pm. Each lecture section will have three tutorial sections assigned to it.

Delivery method is currently hybrid and may change. The number of sections may be reduced to three depending on student enrollment.

Sessional dates of appointment: Fall session (September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026); appointment period only for November 1, 2026 – December 15, 2026.

Salary: $3,000 per module (per section). Each module is equivalent to a 0.1 FCE load. Salary is prorated accordingly and includes vacation pay. Collective agreement rates take precedence if higher.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or closely related STEM field.
  • Demonstrated formal and extensive experience of career coaching of students with advanced backgrounds in STEM disciplines.
  • Demonstrated superior communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience and evidence of teaching communication methods, including writing, public speaking and interpersonal communications to students with advanced backgrounds in STEM subjects.
Preferred qualifications
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching.
Responsibilities
  • Planning lectures, tutorials, assignments, tests, and marking schemes associated with the module.
  • Maintaining a module website.
  • Delivering module material in lectures and tutorials.
  • Providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students via office hours, email, the module website and/or the module e‑bulletin board.
  • Assisting with preparing the breakdown of TA hours and supervising the TA(s) (if applicable).
  • Managing the assessment of the module and invigilating the final exam (if applicable).
  • Managing and submitting all module grades, including timely completion and release of grades and feedback to students throughout the term.

Instructors will be expected to follow the basic content and style used by the faculty members who normally teach the course, and must get approval from these faculty members or from the Academic Director of Professional Programs for any substantial changes to the course content or assessment methods. Instructors will also consult with the MScAC Program team when creating the course syllabus, assignments, tests, and if applicable, a final exam.

This posting is made in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III per Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are covered by CUPE 3902 Unit 1 and should not apply for positions posted under Unit 3.
