Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream – CLTA – German Language Pedagogy
The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three‑year full‑time contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in the area of German Language Pedagogy. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate German language courses at all levels.
- Manage, mentor, and coordinate teaching assistants and course instructors.
- Steward course materials and curriculum delivery.
- Coordinate the German language sequence and multi‑section language courses at beginner and intermediate levels.
- Participate in departmental administration and contribute to program planning.
- PhD in German Studies or related field completed by the start of the appointment (or within six months thereafter).
- Native or near‑native proficiency in German.
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, evidenced by a strong teaching dossier, evaluations, awards, or other recognition.
- Expertise in undergraduate German language instruction, including curriculum development and innovative second‑language teaching methods.
- Experience coordinating multi‑section language courses.
- Commitment to pedagogical inquiry and teaching‑related scholarly activities.
Salary range: $105,000 to $130,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this range may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
